Ecuador is a country located in northwestern South America. It borders on the North with Colombia, on the South, and the East with Peru and on the West with the Pacific Ocean. Ecuador is a multi-ethnic country with a great cultural, natural and archaeological wealth; located in the middle of the equator, at zero latitudes. It has 256,370 square kilometers of surface, being the smallest of the Andean countries, but it has the greatest biodiversity per square meter of the continent.

Its capital is San Francisco de Quito, headquarters of the main state entities and the National Government and its largest city is Santiago de Guayaquil, the main seaport and important economic center. It is divided into 24 provinces, distributed in four natural regions: Amazon, Costa, Sierra, and Insular Region.

In Ecuador, there are 55 volcanoes, 14 in an active state, 14 inactive and 42 passive volcanoes, the highest volcano being Chimborazo with 6,310 masl. It is the country with the highest concentration of rivers per square mile in the world. It is the main exporter of bananas worldwide and one of the main exporters of flowers, shrimp and cocoa.

PERSONAL REGISTRATION SYSTEM

one. Specialized agency
The General Directorate of Civil Registry, Identification and Certification is the body responsible for recording the vital facts and acts related to the civil status of Ecuadorians, foreigners residing in Ecuador and Ecuadorians residing abroad.

two. Dependence
By executive decree, on August 13 the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society is created and the General Directorate of Civil Registry, Identification and Certification is attached to this state portfolio, which will be responsible for overseeing its immediate reform and modernization. It has administrative, financial and technical autonomy.

3. Organization chart of the General Directorate of Civil Registry, Identification and Certification
The General Directorate of Civil Registry, Identification and Certification is administratively represented by the Director-General. The Director-General has national competence and is responsible for organizing, executing, monitoring and, in general, administering all matters concerning the Directorate of Civil Registry, Identification, and Certification, as well as the other powers and duties indicated in the law. It is freely appointed and removed from the Ministry of Government.
The General Directorate of Civil Registry, Identification and Certification has the following bodies: Department of Civil Registry; Department of Certification; Administrative Technical Department; Legal Department; and, Civil Registry, Identification, and Certification Headquarters.

4. Functions
It corresponds to the General Directorate of Civil Registry, Identification and Certification the celebration of marriages, the inscription of the facts and vital acts related to the civil status of the persons resident in the territory of the Republic and of the Ecuadorians residing abroad, and their identification and identification. Its specific purpose is to organize these inscriptions, grant identity cards and identity and citizenship.

5. Identity documents in the Ecuadorian system
